Upcoming Open House for High School Regional Arts Program

St. Elizabeth Catholic High School will be holding its annual Open House for its Regional Arts Program on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the YCDSB Theatre for the Arts, which is located adjacent to the school at 525 New Westminster Drive in Thornhill.

The Open House will consist of a Visual Arts Showcase that begins at 6 p.m., which will be followed by an Information Session about the Regional Arts Program at 7 p.m. The information session will provide visitors with essential program details and allow time for families to ask questions to staff and current students.

Any student in Grade 8 who resides in York Region and is interested in enroling in the high school arts program for September 2018 is encouraged to attend the Open House with their parents or guardians.

“I am extremely proud of our Regional Arts Program.  It allows students to explore and develop their talents and to discover and evolve their skills,” says John Heinrich, Principal. “Watching students in the program is wondrous – seeing them develop and mature over time speaks to the program’s benefits and demonstrates the levels of commitment and talent our teachers bring to their classrooms.  A learning environment suffused in the arts develops the skills that are attractive both to the post-secondary world and to employers.  Coupled with opportunities to experience the arts first-hand through exhibits and concerts, guest speakers and field trips, our RAP students leave us all the more prepared to meet the challenges of the world before them.  I look forward to meeting our potential new students and their parents at our upcoming Open House.”

Programs offered in the arts program include vocal music, instrumental music, dance, drama, visual arts and digital media. Launched in 2003, the four-year Regional Arts Program offers students a chance to explore their artistic interests while also fulfilling the requirements to obtain their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students may also be eligible to graduate with a Ministry of Education ‘Red Seal’ indicating that they attained a Specialist High Skills Major in Arts and Culture.

Application packages can be accessed online after the October 11th Open House via the Regional Art Program website, www.stelizabethrap.com. Auditions are required as part of the application process and details about this process will be shared at the Open House.
