St. Anthony CES welcomes award-winning author, Itah Sadu for Black History Month

In honour of Black History Month, St. Anthony CES in Thornhill welcomed Itah Sadu, an award-winning author, storyteller, and owner of Toronto bookstore, A Different Booklist.

Sadu shared the rich oral traditions of the Caribbean, Africa and North America with the school’s Grade 1-8 students and teachers through a presentation titled, Stories That Make You Holler.  Through her dynamic storytelling ability, Sadu recounted stories about many Black Canadians and the amazing things they did to make our communities inclusive and welcoming to all people. Students and staff alike, greatly enjoyed Sadu’s presentation and were inspired by her entrepreneurial spirit.

Sadu is the author of: Christopher, Please Clean Up Your Room; Christopher Changes His Name; Greetings, Leroy; A Touch of the Zebras; Name Calling; and How the Coconut Got Its Face.  A Different Booklist is an independent, multicultural bookstore specializing in books from the African & Caribbean Diaspora. Sadu is also a Board member and Harry Jerome Scholarship Trustee, and has earned numerous awards and certifications, some of which include: Sesheme Hero Amongst Us; Black Business and Professional Association, Women of Honour; Toronto Arts Council Foundation; and the African Canadian Achievement Award for Excellence in Business.
