Students show their spirit at YCDSB’s annual Special Olympics Track and Field Day

Over a hundred student athletes from 13 Catholic high schools across York Region participated in YCDSB’s annual Special Olympics Track and Field Day at Jean Vanier CHS on June 4, 2018.

The students participated in various athletic events and activities with the support of student volunteers, educational assistants and teachers. This event celebrated the many abilities of students with exceptionalities, sports and athleticism, and friendship.

An Opening Ceremony with remarks by organizers and dignitaries was followed by an all-school parade featuring a lap walked around the track. Various athletic events then took place including: long-jump competitions, hockey shooting, shot-put, basketball shooting, and track events. The day full of students showing off their school spirit wrapped up with a Closing Ceremonies congratulating students on a job well done!

The event was originally scheduled for June 1, 2018, but was rescheduled due to rain. Luckily, on the rain date of June 4th, the weather held until the end of all sporting competitions.
