French Immersion

In addition to English classes, the York Catholic District School Board is pleased to offer a French Immersion Program in Aurora, Maple, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Stouffville and Woodbridge.

French Immersion programs are designed to provide non-francophone children with a high degree of proficency in the French language.

While any exposure to a second language is beneficial, French Immersion broadens and deepens that exposure. In Immersion programs, French is not only a subject, but a language of instruction and a means of communication.

Students in grades JK to 3 residing 1.2 km beyond the school and within the French Immersion transportation boundary will receive transporation. As well, students in grades 4 to 8, who live beyond 1.6 km and live within the French Immersion transportation boundary, will receive transportation. Students are required to walk a short distance to and from these centralized bus stops.

Transportation will be provided for siblings of students registered in the French Immersion program, effective, September 2012. This busing privilege exists as long as one child in the family remains in the French Immersion program. Please note for half-day Kindergarten programs, there is no mid-day busing.

The bus route schedule for the program will be finalized the third week of August. Parents can access the information at www.schoolbuscity.com by selecting “stop information” and choosing the specific French Immersion School. At this site, you will be able to identify the nearest street corner/intersection to your home and confirm the pick up and drop off time for the designated bus stop.
