The Board is working in close cooperation with York Region Community and Health Services. The Board is ready and able to take whatever advice or action regional health authorities recommend to reduce the risk to our school communities.
At this point in time, York Region Community and Health Services is no longer reporting individual confirmed H1N1 cases to the Board or to schools.
Whether or not there are confirmed cases of H1N1 at school, it's important that you assume H1N1 flu is in all schools and take steps to protect your family from becoming ill.
Even if a student/staff member should self disclose to the School Board or school, there is no change in direction from Health Services – they are continuing to advise schools to emphasize routine infection prevention and control practices.
The following standard practices continue:
• daily student absenteeism reports to York Region Community and Health Services for all schools;
• daily routine cleaning and disinfecting in all schools; and
• reinforcement of measures to prevent the spread of the influenza and other infections.
Therefore, at this point in time, letters will not be sent home infoming parents of any confirmed individual cases of H1N1.
