Community united to B-Strong

The annual B-Strong event, in support of brain tumour research was recently held, at the Markham Museum. The event is in memory of Lindsay Bolger, a York Catholic District School Board 2011 Distinguished Alumni, who started the B-Strong Fund while battling a rare brain tumour.

A graduate of St. Brother Andre CHS, Lindsay played on the rugby, volleyball, basketball and field hockey teams. She went on to attend St. Francis Xavier University, playing varsity rugby and volleyball and going to national finals three times.

This year, as B-Strong Day coincided with Earth Day, organizers felt that a family-friendly walk and barbeque would be fitting to honour Lindsay’s efforts and commitment to raising awareness about brain tumours and associated research.

In 2011, the Town of Markham declared April 22 (Lindsay’s birthday) as B-Strong Day, and many local schools and organizations take part in fundraising for continuing brain research at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Since 2005, over $580,000 has been raised through events, including the B-Strong Bash.

Additional information about Lindsay's journey can be viewed on the B-Strong website, Organizers, family and friends of Lindsay, thank everyone who took part in this year’s event.
