Soccer team scores a meeting with the Prime Minister
The Senior Girls Soccer Team from St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS
in Woodbridge recently had an impromptu meeting with Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, after one of the girls spotted the Prime Minister just walking down the street.
The team was in Ottawa for the Louis Riel Invitational Soccer Tournament, where they won three of the five games played. The first day of the trip was spent touring the national capital, while the second was dedicated to tournament play.
Teachers, Marcos Mariani and Anna Figliano, were with the students in front of Parliament Hill, when one of the students spotted the Prime Minister walking into the National Press Building. Acting quickly, the group followed and the soccer team scored an invitation from one of the PM assistants for a quick meeting.
The Prime Minister greeted each student individually and asked about the team’s visit to Ottawa and the soccer tournament, before continuing with his agenda.
“The girls were definitely excited and some were star-struck,” says Marcos Mariani. ”not only were they able to showcase their athletic talent at the tournament, but they were also captivated by Ottawa's cultural and political richness. It was an experience they are sure to cherish for years to come.”
