Two students selected to advise the Minister of Education

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Emiliano Laing, Grade 9 student at Cardinal Carter CHS in Aurora, and Dominic Ziobrowski, Grade 11 student at St. Elizabeth CHS in Vaughan on being selected to be part of the Minister of Education's Student Advisory Council.

Emilano and Dominic are among 60 students from across Ontario who were selected to be on the Minister Student Advisory Council (MSAC). The students on the MSAC share their ideas and provide advice to the Minister on a variety of topics regarding Ontario's publicly-funded education system. The council meets directly with the Minister of Education, and gathers twice a year. During their one-year term, council members may create sub-committees on matters of interest and meet virtually to discuss them. Members are also invited to participate in regional programs, events forums and conferences. Students may also be invited to participate in consultations regarding policies or programs that have an impact on students.

Dominic is looking forward to advocating for more financial literacy to be taught to students in schools. Emiliano is looking forward to providing a voice for students on issues having to do with diversity, cultural awareness, social and economic issues.
