Students with exceptionalities compete during YCDSB Special Olympics Track and Field Day

Over 130 student athletes from Catholic high schools across York Region participated in YCDSB's annual Special Olympics Track and Field Day at Jean Vanier CHS on May 30th.

The students participated in various athletic events and activities with the support of student volunteers, educational assistants and teachers. This event celebrated sport, abilities of students, and friendship. An Opening Ceremony with remarks by organizers and board officials started off the Track and Field Day. YCDSB's Secondary Superintendent of Education, Jennifer Sarna, and Mayor of Richmond Hill, Dave Barrow, attended the competitions and congratulated students before the day wrapped up.

The event was originally scheduled for May 25th, but was rescheduled due to rain. Luckily, on the rain date of May 30th, the weather held until the end of all sporting competitions.
