At a recent Board Meeting, York Catholic District School Board trustees recognized outgoing SALEP Committee member Terri Whyte for her many years of service to York Region students.
Terri has served as a community representative on the committee for almost 10 years. SALEP, which stands for Supervised Alternative Learning for Excused Pupils, is a legally required process that permits students to be released from regular full-time school attendance in order to be involved in an alternative school. The SALEP committee members assess pupil and parent requests.
Board Chair Elizabeth Crowe noted that “Terri has been described as a deeply caring and compassionate individual who never gave up hope that every student could find success. She was deeply committed to ensuring the fair treatment of all students.”
As a parent of four, Terri also served on St. Joseph Aurora Catholic Elementary School’s Catholic School Council. She is also a registered nurse at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
