York Catholic is proud to be a part of a network that is striving to make life easier for parents of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Recently, Director of Education Susan LaRosa attended the launch of this unique partnership, which is a first-of-its-kind not only here in York Region, but in Ontario.
The goal of the York ASD Partnership has been to align all the available services for families with children with ASD, in a way that is clear and easily accessible. The York ASD Partnership includes York Catholic, the York Region District School Board, as other dedicated community organizations.
By bringing together community agencies, school boards and other organizations throughout York Region, the system works to pool the available expertise, funds and knowledge to ensure the best possible services for families.
At the York ASD Partnership launch, Director LaRosa spoke of the need for the partnership and the purpose it will serve throughout York Region.
“I know we all recognize the importance and significance of creating this partnership and that’s why we are here today,” said Director LaRosa. “There is no greater frustration for parents than the desire to help their child and not know where to turn.”
Throughout the planning process, parents have been active and vocal in this grassroots movement and helped to propel the work of the ASD Partnership from the very beginning. Parents were eagerly involved in many of the meetings, planning sessions and working groups, and provided an active voice for the needs of the community.
York Catholic is proud to be part of an established and dedicated group of community service providers, educators, health professionals and parents committed to improving the services available to people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
“We are all working hard to create a system that is welcoming, informative and beneficial - it is truly a collaborative effort!” said Director LaRosa.
