St. Joan of Arc students “get snappy” for end-of-year photography event

St. Joan of Arc CHS photography students are not only professionals behind the camera, but also behind the scenes.

Recently, Mrs. Santini’s Grade 12 Photography Class planned, produced and executed the SNAP Photography Show, which displayed student artwork from throughout the school year. Not only was this a great experience for students, but it will also help the school. A portion of the proceeds from the show will be put towards updating and enhancing the school’s photography equipment.

An annual event at St. Joan of Arc in Maple, Grade 12 students look forward to SNAP as a forum to showcase their talent and hard work to their friends, families and peers. Also on display this year were Grade 11 photography students’ final photographs of the year.

Many members of the community dropped by to take a look at the amazing photographic work, and all works were available for purchase, with proceeds going back to the artist and towards new equipment for the Photography Department.

“Between assignments and coming up with their own themes, you can see the creativity and passion a lot of the students have for photography,” said Mrs. Santini. “It was also a great opportunity to allow members of the community to come out and see the talent and give feedback to our students.”

As guests arrived to admire and purchase artwork, Rogers TV and Snap Magazine were also on hand to cover the event.

The school raised approximately $800 from the entrance fee and the sale of the students’ work.

Participating in the SNAP photography show not only allowed students to display their current photography, but Mrs. Santini believes it will help them if they choose to pursue arts as a career.

“For students going into the arts at a post-secondary institute, SNAP has allowed them to be one step ahead with the experience of planning, producing, and executing a show. I am very proud of my students!”
