Programs and Pathways to Success

“Success” can mean different things to different people.
For us, students’ high school years are successful if they are challenged to explore to their full potential and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to make a smooth transition to a preferred future – whether through apprenticeship, college, community living, university or the workplace.

The Programs and Pathways pillar is about enabling students to make successful transitions - from grade to grade and to life after high school. As Catholic learning communities, our schools are at their best when they help students discover and develop their God-given gifts and their sense of vocation.

As a board, our Programs and Pathways goal is to enable students to apply knowledge of their gifts, interests and abilities, and make appropriate decisions about educational possibilities and career opportunities.

The PROGRAMS AND PATHWAYS Pillar is meant to help students:

  1. 1. Acquire and develop transferrable, life-long skills;
    a. Identify, explore and develop their God-given strengths, gifts, talents and abilities in light of a broad range of career options;
    b. Apply knowledge of their personal interests, strengths, abilities, and accomplishments to education and career planning;
    c. Make informed decisions about the options they will encounter in the course of their schooling, especially those they will make as they transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 and as they prepare to leave school; and,
    d. Set appropriate goals.
  2. 2. With an effective Guidance and Career Education program, our graduates leave the YCDSB as happy, healthy, competent and capable young adults who find a match between their strengths, their God-given talents, and the opportunities that await them after high school. More importantly, they find purpose, meaning and dignity in the choices they make.
