Focus Programs

FOCUS PROGRAMS prepare students to make successful transitions to a specific occupation. YCDSB has such programs in:

CNC Production (hosted by St. Elizabeth and offered at Seneca College-Jane Campus)
Hairstyling (offered at St, Joan of Arc).
Hospitality and Tourism (offered at Riviera Parque Conference and Banquet Centre)

These are multi-credit programs, offered over the course of one semester


Fast Track to a Career in Computer Numeric Control and Robotics

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) – Precision Machining at Seneca College –
Semester 2 (Open to Grade 11 or 12 Students)
This three (3) credit half-day course will be offered afternoons at the Seneca College Centre for Advanced Technologies during Semester 2. You travel daily to Seneca to be involved in the high tech world of computerized fabrication and will explore careers in the prototype development industry. You will also earn advanced standing in two College courses. Seneca will provide access to a top-student scholarship. This program could lead to apprenticeship, college or university destinations. Interested students must attend the open house in May for more details about this exciting opportunity.

Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Programmer/Operator, Tool and Die Maker

Fast Track to a Career in Hairstyling and Esthetics TXJ4E

This four (4) credit package will be offered at St. Joan of Arc CHS during Semester 2. Students will be enrolled in a 2 credit hairstyling class (TXJ4E) in the morning and complete a 2 credit coop hairstyling placement (through their home school) in the afternoon. At the end of the semester, students will write the Ontario Level 1 apprenticeship test. Successful applicants will have completed part of their apprenticeship training and will be well on their way to certification. NOTE: students should have completed 26 credits (including compulsories) before the beginning of the course.

YCDSB partners with the Riviera Parque Business and Culinary Program!

Located in the heart of Vaughan, the Riviera Parque Dining, Banquet and Convention Center defines the complete hospitality experience. It boasts award-winning architecture and provides the backdrop for events and celebrations of all kinds … and of all sizes. The YCDSB is proud to announce it has entered into a partnership with Riviera Parque to prepare 15 students for post secondary studies or employment in the field of Business and Culinary Management. This full day, semester long program allows students to earn up to four (4) credits towards their OSSD.
