Education Development Charges 2009 By-Law Renewal
Education Development Charges 2009 By-law Renewal
Education Development Charges (EDCs) may be levied by a school board on residential, industrial, commercial and institutional development (excluding certain exemptions by statute and school board by-laws). The charges relate to the cost of land that will be used to construct a new school for growth-related pupils. The charges are collected at building permit issuance by municipal governments, who are responsible for implementing the provisions of the Board's Education Development Charge by-law.
The funds collected will be forwarded by the municipality to the school boards. Use of the funds is restricted to education land costs.
