The purpose of the Parents’ Guide to Special Education is to provide information about the Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC), and to outline the procedures involved in identifying a pupil as “exceptional”, deciding the pupil’s placement, or appealing such decisions if you do not agree with the Identification Placement Review Committee (IPRC). The Guide is available in Cantonese, English, Italian, and Spanish. The translated versions of the Guide are listed in the links below. The guide is also available in braille, large print, and audio formats.
In addition, parents can access translators, provided by the school board, to assist with the interpretation of documents or discussions at school meetings throughout the Identification Placement Review Committee (IPRC) process.
If, after reading this Guide, you require more information, please contact your child’s school principal.
