The Northern Initiative

York Catholic District School Board has a new Multi Year Strategic Plan that sets priorities, provides direction, and calls for program reviews to position us for continued success as one of the top-performing school boards in Ontario. Program reviews are conducted to ensure that our assets and resources are allocated and aligned to achieve the best possible outcomes for our Catholic school communities.

In 2002-2003, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic College School welcomed Grade 7 and 8 students from Prince of Peace, St. Bernadette and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Elementary Schools. The establishment of the K-6 / 7-12 model was referred to as the “Northern Initiative”. Another feature of the “Northern Initiative” is a June graduation ceremony for Grade 8 students and an October Graduation Ceremony for Grade 12 students. This model has not been formally reviewed since its inception.

In 2015/2016, the York Catholic District School Board initiated a review of the Northern Initiative in the context of our Board’s new Mission Statement and the pursuit of the Vision we have for our students in Georgina.
