Catholic School Council Financial Reporting

CSC Financial Reporting

The Catholic School Council accepts fiscal responsibility for handling the community funds they collect. This includes all the proper recording of income and expenditures, the maintenance of all receipts and backup and the analysis and reporting of the activities in a timely manner.

The elected Catholic School Council treasurer will be responsible for appropriate record keeping and financial reporting. Each Catholic School Council shall provide an annual report to the York Catholic District School Board by mid-September each year. (fiscal reporting September 1st to August 31st).

Option to process Council funds through the School Bank Account:

Maintaining Catholic School Council financial records in school bank accounts

A number of schools have tested and chosen the option to process Catholic School Council Funds through the School’s Bank Account.

The advantages to this option are:

  • Council still maintains control and authorization of funds through a specified approval process and reconciliation to sub-ledger reports.
  • Council does not require a separate bank account and subsequent service charges.
  • Council still counts funds and delivers deposits to the bank.
  • Council no longer needs to maintain a ledger or prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Year-end Council reporting is available to the Board online (to adhere to Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) reporting requirements).
  • Council benefits from GST rebate.

If you are interested in incorporating this process at your school, please email Kristina Mehring at kristina.mehring@ycdsb.ca in the Budget Department.
