Healthy Schools

The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) requires each school board to prepare an annual accessibility plan. The York Catholic District School Board’s first annual plan was published in 2003.

Since then, the Board’s accessibility committee has continued to meet throughout each school year to discuss measures for identifying, removing and preventing barriers for people with disabilities who work in, use or attend school board facilities and services.

The committee has selected the theme and logo “Breaking Down Barriers” to assist in creating awareness throughout our school system. The committee has also surveyed schools to determine hearing and vision barriers that need to be addressed. In addition, committee members have committed to addressing attitudinal barriers in our school system.

This year, our accessibility committee is working to promote awareness of the range of disabilities, both visible and invisible, so that we may be inclusive and embrace all people in our school communities.
