York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) voted on a number of important issues at their last board meeting. Below is a summary of those decisions. Additional and background information can be found on the board’s website.
Making Ends Meet / Human Services Planning Board Initiative
Director of Education, Susan LaRosa, who is also Co-Chair of the Human Services Planning Board of York Region, made a presentation to Trustees on the Making Ends Meet initiative. The initiative brings together the Region’s many organizations and agencies to work together to help low and moderate income families struggling to make ends meet. All board members have agreed to work beyond the boundaries of their respective institutions to identify innovative actions and collaborative approaches to help those families and individuals who are struggling
Trustees approved a re-alignment for the French Immersion boundary for Our Lady of Peace and Immaculate Conception, to reflect the change in the feeder school boundaries of St. Emily and Blessed Trinity. Effective immediately, all new French Immersion students within the subject area will be directed to Our Lady of Peace. Existing French Immersion students, within the subject area, will have the option to attend either Immaculate Conception or Our Lady of Peace with transportation until September 2013. After September 2013, French Immersion students, within the subject area, will no longer be eligible for transportation to Immaculate Conception.
Trustees approved that a French Immersion program be implemented at St. Anthony CES, effective September 2012, starting with a grade 1 class. The boundary will be defined by the following elementary schools: St. Anthony, St. Michael Academy, St. Rene Goupil-St. Luke, Blessed Scalabrini (South of Highway 7 only), Holy Family, St. Joseph the Worker and Mother Teresa CES.

Designated Special Awareness Days
To demonstrate the Board’s ongoing commitment to promote the well being of individuals, communities and the environment, Trustees endorsed the support of the designated days/weeks/months of observance as outlined in the attached list.
