YCDSB congratulates its students who received Centro Scuola Awards

The York Catholic District School Board partners with Centro Scuola to provide enriching study abroad opportunities in Italy for its high school students. Students who participate in these summer credit courses earn high school credits for their work which can be applied towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

This fall, Centro Scuola held an awards night for students who participated in the 2014 program. Two Grade 12 Holy Cross Catholic Academy students, Josephine Bulat and Julia Basso received the Gino Ventresca Scholarship Fund award for their exceptional work during the program.

The York Catholic District School Board congratulates Josephine and Julia, as well as all of the below listed students who received awards for their high-level of academic achievement in the study abroad program. It also congratulates Michael Aretusi, Grade 12 student at St. Elizabeth CHS for receiving the Christian Spirit Award (in Abruzzo), and Alexandra DeCata, Grade 11 student at Cardinal Carter CHS for her work in the Visual Arts Course.

Centro Scuola was started in 1976 for the purpose of promoting Italian language courses for students from the community. It organizes Saturday morning Italian classes for children, where learning comes through hands on experiences such as cooking, art, music, dance, and games. It also offers summer school credit courses in Italy, in partnership with the York Catholic District School Board, and Toronto Catholic District School Board, giving high school the enriching experience of learning and living abroad for three weeks.
