Girls in STEM Initiative brings special guest speaker to St. Robert CHS

Melanie Hudson, President of Lexmark Canada visited St. Robert CHS in Markham to speak with the school’s Robotics team, FRC Team 4001. The visit was arranged by Kim Cooper of FIRST Canada as part of a new initiative from FIRST called Girls in STEM.

In all there were approximately 100 students who stayed after school to hear Hudson speak about her career path and answer several questions from the curious students. Hudson’s two-hour visit also included a demonstration by students of last year’s robot run, as students enthusiastically told her about their robotics work.

Hudson provided tips to the students about what employers like her are looking for in job candidates. She emphasized that it is important to study hard and get good marks, but also that students should doing things like participate in robotics clubs to be a more well-rounded person.
