SBN Awarded a School of Character!

Congratulations to all the staff and students at St. Brendan CES for receiving the School of Character Award at the 13th Annual York Region Character Community Awards on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. The award is “presented to a school that has systematically developed a sustained character development initiative that positively impacts the climate and culture of their school and community.” Please see below for further information about St. Brendan’s contribution.

St. Brendan CES is truly a school of incredible character. The school hosts  Autism, Down’s Syndrome and Epilepsy awareness days to create awareness and compassion for their classmates. Our Luke 4:18 social justice committee organizes annual food and clothing drives for the less fortunate. St Brendan’s Gryphon Grind Coffee “Shop” and Fun Shop provides students with special needs the opportunity to develop life skills by providing excellent customer service to staff and students. The Faith Committee and Liturgical Dance Crew organize many school activities.

This year St. Brendan’s staff developed a special project to promote inclusion by writing and decorating positive affirmations for all its students on the washroom stalls.

There is also a sensory hallway in the school that enables students who need a break to take one while still being engaged and involved in their learning.

WAY TO GO ST. BRENDAN!
