St. Mark CES Student Wins “Mayor For A Day” Contest in Whitchurch-Stouffville

Congratulations to Gabriella B., Grade 6 student at St. Mark CES for winner the first-ever Mayor For a Day Contest in Whitchurch-Stouffville!

Open to students in Grades 5 – 7, the contest gave young people an opportunity to share ideas on how to make Whitchurch-Stouffville an even better place to live.  Applicants were invited to submit either an essay or a 3-minute video highlighting their ideas. Gabriella’s winning essay, which was adjudicated by town councilors, focused on the need for more women in politics.

On June 4th, Gabriella was picked up at St. Mark CES in one of Whitchurch-Stouffville fire engines and driven to town hall to be officially sworn in by Mayor Iain Lovatt. A tour, dinner and conference with the mayor and opening of a town council meeting followed.

“This has been such an amazing experience! It showed me what a true leader does, I loved it so much that maybe one day I will run for mayor,” said Gabriella.
