Holy Cross CA athletes victorious at inaugural Invitational Youth Games

Congratulations to Marlene C.P., Emil A., Thomas M., and an honourable mention to Kevin C. for representing York Catholic and Holy Cross Catholic Academy at the Inaugural “Invitational Youth Games” May 14-17 in Toronto.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Special Olympics Ontario, the event welcomed over 2,000 athletes and 500 coaches, from seven international regions, in five sports – Athletics, Soccer, Bocce, Basketball and Floor Hockey.

Inspired and guided by the spirit of the Special Olympics Oath, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,” Marlene took home a gold medal in Shot Put and the Standing Long Jump, while Emil and Thomas finished in the Top 10  in Long Jump, Shot Put, and 100m track events.

Teacher-coaches and mentors, John Clement, Michael Olenicz, and Laura Hardychuk said they were  very proud of these remarkable student athletes.
