Congratulations to our 2019 OECTA Young Authors

York Catholic congratulates its student-winners who were selected for the 2019 Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) Young Authors Awards / Prix Jeunes Ecrivains this past June.

Elementary and secondary students from Catholic Boards across Ontario submitted original works, judged in five creative streams: short story, play, poem, fiction, and non-fiction, in both English and French.

Once again, YCDSB students did an amazing job, earning 16 awards in total, including several in the French categories! The students’ work is published in the official 2019 Young Authors Awards book.

In a special message to all student authors who entered, Ab Falconi, YCDSB Director of Education said, “All of us at the York Catholic District School Board are so proud of what you have accomplished, and trust that your artistry, determination, and unique voice will continue to shine in new works for many years to come. Together with your parents and teachers, I encourage you to continue thinking critically and creatively in all you do. Interpreting the world, and your growing faith through language is a powerful, and positive way to celebrate the many gifts God has given you. Congratulations to all on a tremendous job representing your school, your teachers and the York Catholic District School Board.”
