Diwali is a festival of lights and this year it will be ushered in on Thursday, November 4, 2021. It lasts five days and marks the celebration of good over evil.
The date of Diwali is determined by having the third day of the festival correspond with the darkest night of the lunar month, and as such, the date changes from year to year.
Diwali is celebrated as a religious festival by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. It has also become a cultural celebration for many South Asian people of all faiths and people of the Indian diaspora.
The York Catholic District School Board wishes everyone who celebrates the festival of lights a very Happy Diwali!
