In preparation for the upcoming Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) on Wednesday March, 27th, 2019, Cardinal Carter Catholic High School will be providing students with two support programs: “Literacy Tuesdays” and after school “Remedial Literacy Classes”. We encourage your child to participate in these programs in order to become familiar with the test format and build on literacy skills.
All grade 10 students will participate in the “Literacy Tuesday” program which is supported by the OSSLT study booklet, “The OSSLT Literacy Lab”. “Literacy Tuesdays” will take place from Tuesday, February 12 to March 26. To receive this study booklet, students will need to submit $10.00 (cash or cheque made out to Cardinal Carter C.H.S.) to their homeroom teacher by Monday, January 14th 2019.
REMEDIAL LITERACY CLASSES
In addition, our school will be offering after school Remedial Literacy Classes. This course will be available to all Grade 9 and 10 students, including students who were previously unsuccessful. This course will consist of two classes; one focusing on various components of the literacy test and the other on the benefits of assistive technology known as Google Read and Write. The classes will take place from 2:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following dates:
Month of February:
Tuesday, February 12,19 and 26
Month of March:
Tuesday, March 5,19 and 26
Please note: There is no cost to register for the remedial classes. Students are strongly encouraged to enrol and are asked to return the attached registration form to their homeroom teacher no later than Monday, January 14th, 2019. After school transportation will not be provided, and students will need to arrange for their transportation home. The OSSLT is a graduation requirement, so we hope these programs will aid in the student’s growth and knowledge.
We are committed to providing your child with the resources and support to find optimal success. Should you have any questions regarding the OSSLT, please feel free to contact Ms. Rocca.
