OSSLT Preparation

In preparation for the upcoming Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) on Wednesday March, 27th, 2019, Cardinal Carter Catholic High School will be providing students with two support  programs: “Literacy Support Days” and after school “Literacy Support”. We encourage your child  to participate in these programs in order to become familiar with the test format and build on literacy skills.

We have also created a website which can be found here.

All grade 10 students will participate in the “Literacy Support” program which is supported by the OSSLT study booklet, “The OSSLT Literacy Lab”.  These will take place from Thursday February 21st to March 26.

Here is the schedule. Be sure to bring your Booklet to school on the following dates: Thursday, February 21st; Tuesday, February 26th; Thursday February 28th; Tuesday March 5th; Thursday, March 7th; Tuesday, March 19th; Thursday, March 21st; Tuesday, March 26th.

In addition, our school will be offering after school Remedial Literacy Classes. This course will be available to all Grade 9 and 10 students, including students who were previously unsuccessful.  This course will consist of two classes; one focusing on various components of the literacy test and the other on the benefits of assistive technology known as Google Read and Write. The classes will take place from 2:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Month of February:

Tuesday, February 12,19 and 26

Month of March:

Tuesday, March 5,19 and 26

Please note: There is no cost to register for the literacy support classes. Students are strongly encouraged to enrol and are asked to return the attached registration form to their homeroom teacher no later than Monday, January 14th, 2019. After school transportation will not be provided, and students will need to arrange for their transportation home. The OSSLT is a graduation requirement, so we hope these programs will aid in the student’s growth and knowledge.

We are committed to providing your child with the resources and support to find optimal success.  Should you have any questions regarding the OSSLT, please feel free to contact Ms. Rocca.
