Superintendent Oloya Inspires 2019 IB Grads at Celebration

“What will you do with your education?” That was the question at yesterday’s Class of 2019 IB Celebration in the Library Learning Commons. It was posed by keynote speaker and YCDSB Superintendent of School Leadership, Opiyo Oloya, who challenged students to think about what their role will be in creating a better, more peaceful world when they leave these hallways for good at the end of the month.

Students also received well wishes from YCDSB Chair, Dominic Mazzotta; trustees, Elizabeth Crowe and Maria Iafrate; YCDSB Superintendents, Eugene Pivato and Jennifer Sarna; and Cardinal Carter administrators, Sandra Abate and Derek Chan. Though each message was unique, they all encouraged students to take what they have learned in the IB programme and use it for the betterment of humanity, no matter their future pathways.

In true IB-Family style, dignitaries, teachers and students alike culminated the celebrations by sharing a meal together following the formal ceremonies. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our IB Celebration Committee members, Tanya Giovinazzo, Marisa Dametto and Lisa De Castro, for putting this incredible celebration together.

We look forward to hearing all about the great things our outgoing IB class will accomplish in the future and extend huge congratulations to them all on such an incredible achievement. You did it!
