Recently, it announced <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1SA_TsvX3PaaHkxRZKCI-udCEvTIHbjxJ\/view\">Grade 11 students will take the <em>Understanding Contemporary First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit Voices<\/em> course for their Grade 11<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1SA_TsvX3PaaHkxRZKCI-udCEvTIHbjxJ\/view\">English credit<\/a>. In 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ycdsb.ca\/2017\/09\/29\/york-catholic-district-school-board-land-acknowledgment\/\">the Board introduced its YCDSB Land Acknowledgement<\/a> which has since become embedded as a distinct school practice and recited at all large school community gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For centuries, many of the first inhabitants would celebrate the arrival of the warm weather and the pleasures of the summer solstice. The summer solstice is the day of the year with the longest light. June 21, the first day of summer, has been chosen as National Indigenous Peoples Day!&nbsp; In 1996, the Governor General of Canada, Rom\u00e9o LeBlanc, proclaimed it National Aboriginal Day! It\u2019s an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the cultural richness and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis peoples.
