Holy Name Catholic school in King City celebrates its 50th Anniversary

Milestone anniversary event featured Mass, official ceremony, and school celebration

Holy Name Catholic Elementary School in King City celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, May 25, 2019. The milestone celebration included a Mass at Sacred Heart Parish celebrated by The Most Reverend Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto, as well as an official recognition ceremony, and school celebration featuring old photos, memorabilia and student artwork.  The entire Holy Name school community including current and former students and staff, parents, guardians and friends of the school were invited to attend and the turnout was amazing!

Over its half-century of educating students, Holy Name CES has served multiple generations of families. The school first opened during the 1968-1969 school year on a 10-acre property at 2585 King Road in King City, where the new King Township municipal offices are now located. The original school housed two classrooms, a Kindergarten room, a science room and a general purpose room.  As the King community grew, an addition was built in the 1970s, portables were put up in the 1980s, and finally in 2012 the school moved to a new facility at its current location at 65 Spring Hill Drive.

Today, Holy Name serves 570 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. It is led by a dedicated team of administrators and staff who foster a culture of academic achievement, and social and emotional well-being and a life of faith rooted in Christ. The school offers many athletic opportunities, arts activities and a ‘Tribal Families’ system where older students mentor their younger peers. Holy Name CES also has a strong, supportive and engaged parent community and close ties with its local community. The school motto, ‘Ever growing in thee’ speaks to the very heart of Catholic Education, whereby students are taught to seek an ever-deeper relationship with God through the pursuit of their studies.

“Holy Name has always been a place where everyone is valued and respected,” says Loretta Barone, Principal.  “Our Catholic virtues are modelled by our students and staff who are living examples of our faith. Our staff give their time and energy to many extracurricular activities so that students can enjoy a rich and rewarding school experience. Our Catholic School Council and parents are extremely generous and greatly contribute to the success of our school.  Our school, church and community at large continue to be interconnected, making Holy Name a cornerstone in King City. We have been blessed with 50 years of memories and traditions. I thank everyone who helped us mark this milestone occasion.”
