Celebrating Catholic Education Week 2020 & Update RE: OLR Virtual Faith Play Week

Dear OLR Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

On behalf of the Our Lady of the Rosary CES community, we hope that your families are healthy and happy, and our teachers and support staff would like to express their thanks for your support at this time, as we continue to support student learning through our online Distance Education.

Catholic Education week begins the week of Sunday, May 3rd to Friday, May 8th.  The theme for CEW 2020 was inspired by three sources:

  • The recent Papal Exhortation, Christus Vivit, by Pope Francis following the 2018 Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment
  • The recent Ontario Bishops’ pastoral letter, Renewing the Promise (2018)
  • The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations by the Institute for Catholic Education (2011)

There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:

Day 1:              Our Hope in Christ

Day 2:              The Hope Within Us

Day 3:              The Hope Among Us

Day 4:              Hope for the World

Day 5:              A Future Full of Hope

 Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week.

Many activities for families, which celebrate this year’s theme and subthemes can be found in the “CEW 2020 At Home Resources” section:

https://www.ocsta.on.ca/cew-2020-at-home-resources/

Accordingly, OLR would like to invite and engage all students and their families to take part in a Virtual “Igniting Hope Faith Play Week,” in which students and their families can further explore and celebrate together the many different shapes and nuances that “Hope” can take.

This Year the theme of Catholic Education Week is “Igniting Hope.” The activity ideas for each of the days of the week during Monday, May 4th to Friday, May 8th are meant to be simple, interactive, fun yet meaningful ways to celebrate the inspirational and positive aspects of “Hope.” Each activity will be based on a different sub-theme of Catholic Education Week.
