The York Catholic District School Board offers a unique opportunity where students can explore the beauty of Italy while taking a course that can earn them a credit that will be applied toward obtaining their OSSD. Students in Grades 10 or 11 can obtain a Visual Arts Credit, or students in Grade 11 can obtain a Grade 12 English 4U credit, while studying in Italy between July 6, 2019 – July 28, 2019.
An information night for interested students and their parents will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the school board’s Catholic Education Centre in Aurora. The Catholic Education Centre is is located at 320 Bloomington Road West, Aurora, ON, L4G 0M1.

English, Grade 12 – ENG4U (1 credit)
This course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills. Students will analyze a range of literary texts from various periods with a focus on Italian and Canadian literature. Students will interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. This course is intended to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace .
Prerequisite: English, Grade 11, University Preparation
Visual Arts-Cultural/Historical Studies, AWU3M or AWU4M (1 credit)
While in Rome, students will visit the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and more historic highlights.
Students will explore Florence including: Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Porcellino market, Uffizi Gallery and l’Accademia delle Belle Arti. Time will be devoted to sketching and painting and students will be taught the skills needed to create their own masterpieces! This exciting Art/Cultural Studies course will immerse students in the art, language, food, history and culture of Italy.
Prerequisite: Gr 11: AVI101 or AVI201 and Gr: 12 AVI301
