BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In February, we celebrate Black History Month. During this time every year, Canadians are invited to take part in events that honour the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have helped to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation we know today. At St. Cecilia we will continue to learn about the experiences of many
inspirational people in history by sharing this information in our classrooms, library and over the morning announcements. Did you know….. Lewis Latimer was instrumental in making the light bulb more practical and drafted the first drawings for the telephone in 1876. Did you know …. Dr. Patricia Bath, co-founder of the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, invented a laser tool to help restore vision in patients around the world. http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory.
“Be patient with your drum, the night is long.” -Zimbabwean proverb.
This month, on Tuesday, February 19th we are very happy to welcome Mr. Duane Gibson to St. Cecilia. His inspirational story and message regarding leadership, perseverance, and anti-bullying is sure to positively impact each and every student.
