2020 is off to a great start at Sir Richard W. Scott Catholic School!

As the new Principal of the vibrant Sir Richard W. Scott Catholic School community, I am committed to helping every student achieve success and well-being. Our primary goal at Sir Richard W. Scott is for students to feel safe and fully engaged in their learning.  We want to develop in our students, the knowledge and skills, that will help them to succeed in all areas of their lives; this includes helping students to develop a deep and lifelong connection to their Catholic Faith.

Our wonderful and talented staff is dedicated to equipping students with essential skills in the areas of:

  • Problem-solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Leadership
  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Information Management
  • Curiosity
  • Reflection
  • 21st Century learning
  • Empathy and Compassion

We are also committed to the social-emotional development of each child.  Therefore, helping students to have greater awareness of their mental health and well-being is key.  Our grade 3/4 and grade 4/5 students have been immensely enjoying their weekly “Taking Care of Me” workshops presented by York Hills. Due to the overwhelming positive response to the program, we would like to look at offering it to other grades.

It is also important to have lots of fun at school! We are excited to announce that our staff is in the midst of planning a number fun-filled events for students:

  • Carnaval Winter Activities- February 13th in the afternoon (tentative date)
  • Valentine’s Day Dance- February 14th (tentative date)

Our CSC is also hard at work; busily planning and organizing volunteers for the following events:

  • Hot chocolate and cookies for Carnaval- February 13th
  • Valentine’s Day Candy Grams- February 14th
  • Raising Confident and Competent Children Workshop- February 20th
  • Pancake Tuesday- February 25th
  • Bingo Night- May 7th

The staff and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Catholic School Council (CSC) for their support of our school’s goals.  The CSC’s generous donation of funds to purchase technology to help enhance learning for our students has been most appreciated as well as their volunteer efforts, and their dedication to organizing enriching community engagement events for our school.  The Power of Positive Parenting Workshop by York Hills on January 20th was very well received by all the parents who attended.  We hope that more parents will come out and join us on February 20th!

I would also like to thank Fr. Joseph Grima from Fr. Frederic Ozanam parish, for his spiritual guidance and leadership.  We are looking forward to his monthly visits to the school as well as our upcoming liturgies and masses with him.

  • Ash Wednesday- February 26th @ 1:30 p.m.

Finally, thank you to all parents and guardians of students at Sir Richard W. Scott Catholic.  We are grateful for your ongoing support, assistance, cooperation, kindness, and for your understanding and patience at this time.

It takes a village to raise a child, as the African Proverb states, so we rely on our strong partnership and open communication with parents and the parish, to help set all of our students up for success and to create a positive learning environment at our school.  Please check the school website calendar and your email regularly for updates and information!

Yours in Catholic Education,

Catherine Donovan
