Collaboration, distinct from community engagement, focuses on partnering with educators, administrators, and support services within the school board to enhance student experiences.

3. Empowerment

Our goal is to provide students with the academic support, skills, and confidence they need to excel and lead. We celebrate and affirm their identities through culturally enriching activities.

4. Accountability

We encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and decisions and promote restorative models to address challenges and conflicts.

Increase Community Engagement

Objective:

Forge strong partnerships with Black-owned and Black-led businesses and community organizations.

Strategies:
  1. Develop mentorship and networking opportunities connecting students with industry professionals.

  2. Facilitate interactive workshops and discussions led by community leaders.

Build a Support Network for Black Students

Objective:

Create a robust support system for Black students, especially during key transitional phases in their educational journey.

Strategies:
  1. Establish transition support for students moving from elementary to secondary school.

  2. Develop peer mentorship programs, fostering relationships and shared experiences.

  3. Organize student-led culturally affirming events to celebrate and honor Black heritage and identity.

Improve Student Well-being and Academic Success

Objective:

Address the mental health, wellness, and academic needs of Black students, ensuring a supportive learning environment.

Strategies:
  1. Implement programs focusing on stress management and overall mental wellness.

  2. Provide targeted academic support and tutoring to address areas like literacy, numeracy, and OSSLT preparation.

Reduce the Incidence of Anti-Black Racism in Schools

Objective:

Cultivate an inclusive and understanding school culture, free from the impacts of anti-Black racism.

Strategies:
  1. Develop and implement an anti-racism education program for students and staff.

  2. Equip students with tools and strategies to recognize, address, and stand against instances of anti-Black racism.

  3. Foster a school environment where inclusivity and mutual respect are paramount.
