Roles of the Office

OPERATING PROCEDURES

The Office of the HREA follows strict procedures when handling any complaints and subsequent investigations. The operating procedures regarding addressing complaints and handling discriminatory statements can be found below.

Operating Procedure 1: Addressing Violations

Operating Procedure 1 is the Office of the HREA’s complaint procedure for addressing or, where required, investigating incidents/complaints of discrimination contrary to the Ontario Human Rights Code. The purpose of Human Rights OP1 is to provide information and instruction on the Board’s procedure for addressing and resolving concerns of discrimination adversely impacting YCDSB community members.

Operating Procedure 2: Discriminatory Statement Response

The YCDSB does not permit the use of discriminatory statements in its learning and working  environments by any YCDSB community member. The Discriminatory Statements Response Procedure reconciles this prohibition with the Board’s goal to create an environment in which students, employees and the community can authentically engage with each other in the interest of equitable education. Accordingly, this policy provides guidance for the appropriate response to discriminatory statements in a variety of contexts, including circumstances when such terms are used among peers within a group that may not result in a discriminatory effect.
