French Immersion program added to two additional schools for 2015-16
The York Catholic District School Board offers the French Immersion program to students beginning in Grade 1, at 12 schools throughout York Region. This number will increase to 14 for September 2015, as St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Elementary School in Keswick and St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Elementary School in Richmond Hill will begin to offer the French Immersion program.
A series of public information sessions will be held throughout York Region for parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in the French Immersion program for the 2015-16 school year. Children born in 2009 who will begin Grade 1 in September 2015 are eligible to apply.
Parents and guardians who are considering enrolling their child in the French Immersion program are encouraged to attend the upcoming information sessions. The sessions will provide an overview of the French Immersion program; explain the criteria for enrolment and the application and registration processes; and assist parents in deciding if French Immersion is right for their child. Guests will also have a chance to ask questions about the program.
The French Immersion program aims to provide non-francophone children with a high degree of proficiency in the French language. Although the curriculum is the same as in the English language program, the language of instruction for most subjects is in French. Students may qualify for bus transportation.
Online applications for each French Immersion school site will open the day after the local information session. The application process closes for all schools on February 4, 2015. Following the application process, and depending on the number of applicants, a lottery process may be conducted.
Following is a list of the scheduled public information sessions for each French Immersion school site. Parents and guardians should attend the information session for their local French Immersion school, which can be determined at Regional French Immersion Programs.
