Before the Christmas holidays, Samantha Lino, Occasional Teacher, visited Jonathan Grant High School in Spanish Town, Jamaica to deliver two scholarship grants to math students there on behalf of Marsha Thompson’s Grade 12 math class at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School in Aurora.
Students in the class helped to raise the scholarship money so that two students at the Jamaican school could be given the opportunity to further their education. The Grade 12 math class decided to earmark the grants to two female students because they were inspired by Nobel Prize laureate and humanitarian, Malala Yousafzai.
Malala Yousafzai is a renowned advocate for the educational rights of children, especially girls, even after being shot in the head, at the age of 15, for her views.
The scholarship grants, along with a gift bags of school supplies, were awarded to: Brittany Frazer and Desrica York.
