York Catholic schools prepare to celebrate Catholic Education Week, May 7 – 11

Schools are encouraged to use the hashtag #CatholicEdWk and @ycdsb when sharing photos of their events.

The York Catholic District School Board will celebrate Catholic Education Week from May 7 – 11, 2018. All YCDSB schools will mark the occasion by hosting special events and activities that highlight their school communities, as well as the significant contributions that Catholic Education makes to the community, the province and to Canada.

Catholic Education Week is celebrated by Catholic communities across the province. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Renewing the Promise.” This theme draws upon previous documents on Ontario Catholic education, namely, “This Moment of Promise” (1989), “Fulfilling the Promise” (1993) and “Our Catholic Schools” (2006-2007). These three documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of the unique mission of Catholic education in Ontario, the importance of its shared leadership by all those involved, and the critical role of Catholic education in contemporary society.

To begin Catholic Education Week celebrations at the Board-level, the York Catholic District School Board will announce its 2018 Distinguished Alumni on Monday, May 7th. The annual Distinguished Alumni campaign pays tribute to graduates from within the Board who are making significant and unique contributions in their respective careers and communities. The announcement is highly-anticipated within the York Catholic community and the chosen Distinguished Alumni serve as inspiration to the Board’s current students and staff.

In addition, the Board will also mark Mental Health Week, which runs from May 7 – 13, 2018. The winners of YCDSB’s Elementary Mental Health Sticker Contest, and Secondary Mental Health Poster Contest will be announced on Monday, May 7, 2018.
