STL Students compete in The Dragon’s Nest Finale

Six students from St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School competed in The Dragon’s Nest Finale Competition through The Learning Partnership on May 15th, 2018. This competition challenged students to answer a business problem and conceptualize a product/solution to that problem while competing against 7 other schools in the GTA.

From 250 video pitches that were submitted earlier in the month across the Greater Toronto Area, the STL group of six were chosen to compete in yesterday’s Finale at the BMO Institute for Learning in Toronto.

The six Grade 10 students who completed this project through their Introduction to Business course (BBI 201), presented their business idea called Bag 2 School in front of 5 real-world working ‘Dragons’ to be eligible for business grants to bring their idea to life.

The winning idea from STL is a subscription service for school supplies (backpack, markers, binders, etc) that would be ordered and delivered to the student’s house prior to the school year to help alleviate parent stress for back to school shopping. Their concept helps parents by keeping pricing low through mass discounts as well as offer trendy backpack designs to appeal to kids. Their project also incorporates a plan to get other students from high schools in YCDSB involved as sellers, helping to grow young entrepreneurs in the board. As a charitable component, for every 10 backpacks purchased through Bag 2 School, 3 will go to students in need around the world.

The students were extremely excited for this opportunity and did very well in the competition. Way to go!

Thanks to the teacher supervisors Nicole Seaton, and Business Mentor Daniel O’Rourke; and congratulations to the students:
