New order from Canada’s Minister of Transport

Happy New Year!

We continue to be unified in our desire to stop the spread of COVID-19 and comply with provincial and federal government mandates. As such, we wanted to ensure that you are all aware of the new order from Canada’s Minister of Transport, which takes effect January 7, 2021. The Honorable Marc Garneau is requiring the following of all travelers to Canada, five (5) years of age or older:

  • Travelers will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before traveling to Canada;
  • The COVID-19 test must be taken 72 hours prior to departure (Note: the test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR));
  • Documentation of the negative lab test must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada; and
  • Travelers to Canada must download and use the ArriveCAN app.

Anyone who receives a negative test and is authorized to enter Canada must still complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine, under the Quarantine Act. In addition, we continue to require that the Pre-Departure, Travel and Arrival Guide be reviewed and that all necessary paperwork regarding the quarantine plan be completed and emailed back to us prior to the student’s departure.
