My News Story

Four Grade 11 students, Shengsheng Fan, Sam Tang, Yulai Duan, and Kevin Wang each received $1,000 Faculty of Mathematics Promissory Scholarships based on their outstanding performances on the 2020 Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest, 2021 Fermat Contest and the 2021 contest. The four students were also invited to attend the 7th annual Exploring Mathematics and Computer Science
Workshop which will be held from July 5-6, 2021.

“This is an impressive achievement from which your school, and particularly your Mathematics Department, should derive great satisfaction,” wrote Robert Garbary and Ian Payne, Co-Directors, Exploring Mathematics and Computer Science Workshop.  “On behalf of the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing, we extend congratulations to you.”

The Four Students

Earlier this year, four other students, Jason Chen, Harry Chen, Sarah Peng and Ivy Zhang were selected to participate in the 56th annual Lloyd Auckland Invitational Mathematics Workshop due to their outstanding achievements from the 2021 Fermat Contest. “The workshop was actually really interesting,” said Ivy.  “The math concepts they taught were a bit challenging but really interesting as well, and I got to meet a lot of students from all around Canada too.

There were also socials held every night including an Escape Room which was super cool!”

The York Catholic District School Board is very proud of these math students and wish the St. Robert math department the best of luck at these maths competitions next year! Great job!
