Students from Gamètì, Northwest Territories visit Holy Cross CA

On Monday, May 28, 2018, Holy Cross Catholic Academy was thrilled to host students from Jean Wetrade School, located in Gamètì, Northwest Territories. Former Holy Cross teacher, Margaret Ann Phillips, is continuing her teaching career in Gamètì, and along with Principal Ed Lavor, arranged for the week long trip to Toronto.

The day at Holy Cross CA began with a musical interlude from the music students. The day included a smudging ceremony led by Knowledge Keeper, Todd Jamieson, and a Mass led by Father Michael of St. Peter’s Parish. The students were also treated to haircuts and makeup from the cosmetology teacher and his talented students. While in the technology wing, students created engraved keychain mementos of their visit and then enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by the hospitality students. The day concluded with a spirited dodge ball tournament involving staff, students, and community police officers.

Many thanks to the staff and students who made this wonderful trip possible. The students from Gamètì and Holy Cross were able to learn so much from each other and created new friendships.
