Rural and Northern Education Allocation

The Ministry of Education’s funding of the Rural and Northern Education Allocation (RNEA) is dedicated funding to further improve education for students from rural and northern communities.

School boards may use the funding for rural education based on local needs, such as the following:

  • improving programming and support services in rural schools (e.g., French immersion, arts education and guidance counselling)
  • continuing the operation of rural schools
  • enhancing student transportation options such as late bus runs and mobile online learning through tablets or Wi-Fi

In 2024-25, The York Catholic District School Board received $108,993 in RNEA funds which were allocated to support the following areas: enhanced student transportation ($32,892) and additional teacher staffing ($40,497) at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Academy and Library Services ($35,604) at St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School.
