The Challenger Baseball Program at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School in Newmarket, Ont., has received generous support to help the program’s members play outdoor sports all winter long.
The Challenger Baseball Program helps students with special needs to develop independence, self-confidence and friendships through adaptive baseball activities. In November, the Jays Care Foundation gifted the program’s members from Canadian Martyrs with 20 sets of snowsuits, hats, gloves and neck warmers so the students could continue playing outside during the winter months.
Challenger is run in partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays and is funded by the Jays Care Foundation. The program at Canadian Martyrs, run by Mr. Sanderson and Ms. Sgambelluri, has been a staple of the school community for a number of years.
In November, Ms. Ricciuti-Giustizia and Ms. Wilkinson from Canadian Martyrs also attended the “Turn the Page” event, hosted by Jays Care and First Book Canada, where the school received more than 200 new books and Lego resources to help students learn.
The York Catholic District School Board is grateful for the support of our community partners who help all our students have an excellent school experience.
