Safe Drinking Water

Under Regulation 243/07 (Schools, Private Schools and Child Care Centres) enacted under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) requires all schools and child care centres to flush plumbing and annually test drinking water for lead.

On July 1, 2017, amendments were made to the regulation to include testing of all drinking water fountains and taps used to provide drinking water and/or prepare food or drink for children under 18 years of age by 2020 in elementary schools and child care centres and 2022 in secondary schools.

The York Catholic District School Board abides by the current regulation for compliance with the drinking water standard for lead.
