Policy/Program Memorandum 170 – Communication
The Ontario Ministry of Education has introduced Policy/Program Memorandum 170 that includes standardized guidelines for boards of education that are aimed to enhance communication and engagement between parents and school boards.
Parent Engagement
In order to keep all of our parents/guardians up to date, the school’s website provides clear up to date information that will help parents/guardians keep informed of the key aspects of life as a student at our school.
SchoolMessenger (emails and/or phone calls) is used for specific information that needs to be relayed to families.
Newsletters and other school social media accounts are also used to keep parents/guardians informed.
Process
Parents/guardians are encouraged to bring forward inquiries regarding your child’s education through the following levels:
-
Classroom level:
Inquiries should be directed to the classroom teacher or relevant support staff.
Call the school’s main office to reach staff members.
That phone number is found at the bottom of this page and above under “Contact.” -
School level:
School administration staff will respond to questions related to school-wide inquiries or unresolved classroom-level inquiries.
The names of the administrator(s) is found at the bottom of this page and above under “Administration.” -
Board level:
An appropriate YCDSB board staff member will address broader inquiries based on the specific nature of the topic.
The name of the Superintendent who oversees our school is found at the bottom of this page and above under “Administration.”
Response Times to Parent Inquiries
We will acknowledge any parent/guardian/caregiver inquiries within two (2) business days. We will also provide an estimated date of response if your parent inquiry cannot be fully addressed within five (5) business days of receipt.
At minimum, staff will confirm receipt of the inquiry within two business days.
If a response is not possible within five business days, staff will send a follow up email to provide an update on an estimated response time, outlining any next steps in the process.
We thank you for your continued support and partnership to best support your child’s education and success.
