Who are the Archangels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael?
St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael are three Archangels recognized by Roman Catholics. Their Feast Days are celebrated together on September 29. Each of the Archangels plays a unique role in the heavenly realm, protecting, announcing and guiding us with their divine strength and love.
St. Michael is often shown as a mighty warrior, equipped with a sword and shield. He is known as the protector and defender against evil. Rewarded for his loyalty to God, he was made chief angel and was declared a saint due to his heroic actions and for serving as an excellent example to others. St. Michael helps us to have courage and to face challenges with bravery. He shields us from harm and assists in driving away negativity, inspiring us to choose what is right and just.
St. Gabriel is the heavenly messenger, often portrayed with a trumpet. He brings important messages from God to people on Earth. St. Gabriel announced the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary and he is associated with hope and communication. He encourages us to listen to God’s voice and to share His message of love and peace with others.
St. Raphael is the Archangel of healing and guide for travellers. He was proclaimed a saint as, according to the Bible, Raphael healed the earth when it was covered by the sins of the fallen. He is often depicted holding a staff and a fish. St. Raphael assists in physical and spiritual healing, providing comfort and support during times of illness, sadness, or pain. He also protects those who journey, ensuring their safety and guiding them along the way.
On the Feast Day of St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael, we celebrate the special roles these Archangels play in our lives. We can turn to them in prayer, seeking their intercession and guidance. They remind us that we are never alone, and they offer their loving presence to help us overcome challenges, find hope and experience God’s healing touch.
St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael teach us to be courageous, to listen to God’s message, and to care for ourselves and others. They remind us that the power of God’s love and protection is always available to us, and they inspire us to live our lives with faith, hope and kindness.
